Victory for both sides

The Los Angeles Times has the story of the outcome of the first terrorism trial at Guantanamo: "A military jury Wednesday convicted Osama bin Laden's driver of supporting terrorism in the first war crimes trial since World War 2, but his acquittal on other charges gave both defenders and critics of the controversial process reason to declare victory... The trial judge, Navy Capt. Keith J. Allred, consolidated the five guilty verdicts into a single count and instructed the jurors to determine a sentence accordingly. He also said he would credit Hamdan with at least five years' time served toward any sentence."

Rico says he always thought trying bin Laden's driver was a weak-ass case, but maybe they wanted to set up an easy target for the first one. But since he could be sentenced to prison for the duration of the 'war' (which is currently infinite, if you believe the other side isn't liable to back down any time soon), it's unclear what the five years 'time served' will get him...
