Sometimes you stumble across a previously-unknown (to me, anyway; our Russian cleaning lady had read him in the original) writer, like Boris Akunin (the pseudonym of Grigory Chkhartishvillihas) and ask yourself "Where the hell has this guy been?" Well, he's been writing a whole series (eleven so far) of excellent books about Erast Fandorin (along with other things; Rico says check out his website by clicking the post title), a Russian detective who should rank up there with any fictional detective. (Yes, even Sherlock Holmes.)
