For many, Stephen Colbert’s faux-conservative persona is the appeal of his show, but occasionally he drops the act and reveals his true self: a giant nerd.
Last night, the host returned to his lightsaber-wielding roots to gush about the first The Force Awakens trailer with charming, fan-boyish enthusiasm. But he also addressed controversy over the new crossguard lightsaber, and revealed why his authority to arbitrate this matter cannot be questioned.
Rico says one should never question Colbert; he won't listen, anyway, but the parodies (samples from a Slate article, below, by Forrest Wickman) are probably better than the real thing (above)...
It’s only been a few days since the first trailer for the next Star Wars movie came out, but the holidays didn’t stop fans from getting to work.
There’s already a Lego trailer (which was just about inevitable at this point) and a version that parodies director JJ Abrams’ penchant for lens flares (in retrospect, almost as inevitable). But for my money the best parody is the trailer (above) for George Lucas’ Special Edition. Here’s hoping this tricked-out update of the movie is one thing that’s not inevitable.
