From the Times Online: "Police say that 123 people have died, many of them children, in a stampede at a Hindu festival in the mountainous northern state of Himachal Pradesh... Most people died of suffocation. “As of now we have 123 people dead, including more than 40 children,” said Daljit Singh Manhas, a senior police officer. Nearly 50,000 worshippers were expected daily during the festival, but many more turned up at the hilltop temple, about 90 miles from the hill station of Shimla, the state capital. The stampede occurred when an iron railing along a steep staircase leading to the temple collapsed under the weight of the crowd, causing many devotees to fall to the ground, police said."
Rico says it happens whenever people act like animals, rather than people. But we just refer to our temples as stadiums...
