Hard lemonade

Rico says sometimes you buy something thinking it's lemonade, but, when you get it home, you think it's lemons. Then you try it, and find it's really hard lemonade...
That would apply to Fist Stick Knife Gun: A Personal History of Violence, a graphic novel by Geoffrey Canada (the author) and Jamar Nicholas (the illustrator).
From the title, Rico says he thought it was a primer on how to use such things. No. It's an autobiography of Canada's growing up, poor and black, on the mean streets of New York City. Now, graphic novels are not Rico's first choice of reading material (and the lettering in this one is so small that Rico had to don his reading glasses again), but this one's pretty damn compelling, and the drawing's pretty good, too.
Turns out, however, that graphic novels aren't a lot of people's first choice, and the editions for sale at Amazon are all-text, in a traditional book format. (The one pictured, which is the edition that Rico bought at the Border's closing sale, is now the 'for use in schools and libraries only' version, for some reason...)
In the classic tradition of Joe Bob Briggs, however, Rico says check it out.
