On 28 September 1924, two US Army planes landed in Seattle, Washington, having completed the first round-the-world flight in 175 days. (The photo is of Major Frederick L. Martin, assisted by Sergeant Alva L. Harvey, about to take off in their Douglas World Cruiser 'Seattle', at the start of their flight around the world, at Clover Field in Santa Monica, California.
