I've been having an argument with my embedded reporter in New Orleans about the wisdom of spending tax money to rebuild a city below sea level.
So I am herewith officially proposing the Raise Up New Orleans bill to any politician who wants to take it up. (They can refer to it as RUNOLA...)
It consists of tax subsidies for one box of clean fill dirt per US citizen, to be mailed to the Corps of Engineers, NOLA.
A special series of stamps will be printed (featuring notable NOLA figures), subsidized by the Treasury, for mailing same.
Free boxes (single and family size), will be available from the Post Office, like the ones they did for eBay. (They've even created a Priority Mail Shoebox measuring 8 inches by 5 inches by 14 inches. It's self sealing and available "at no additional cost to Priority Mail shippers". That'd be perfect.)
The contents are to be dumped anywhere within the New Orleans metroplex, until it is all at least 10 feet above mean sea level.
I've done the math; one cubic foot apiece and we're done. (Don't wait for the government, send your box today.)
Now that is a good use of my tax dollar...
