An eye for an eye

The New York Times has an article and a video (above) by Thomas Erdbrink, who visited with Ameneh Bahrami, whom he first wrote about in 2008, when she won the right to exact revenge on a spurned suitor who doused her with a bucket of sulfuric acid.
Ameneh Bahrami was born on 29 September 1978 in Tehran, Iran. She holds an associate degree in electronics from Islamic Azad University's South Tehran branch, and used to work as an electronics technician before the acid attack, but now does not work. She has written her autobiography, which was published in Germany, Latin America, and elsewhere, and is busy writing a book about a friend’s life.
She would have liked to have become a university professor, but her life changed direction. She likes the life she is living now. She could have been healthy and beautiful and finished her university and lived like many of her friends, who now have routine lives with one or two children. She could remain dependent on her parents, undergo surgeries, and always lament what happened in her life, but she decided to try different options and take control of her life. She does travel to Spain for treatment by herself, and still wants to fulfill her dreams.
She describes herself as an optimist, and compares herself to her brother, who committed suicide months ago: she was the one who was attacked and lost her eyes, but it was her brother who became depressed and lost his enthusiasm for life. She used to tell him that if she had his eyes she would go out to see the beauties of the world. All the sorrows she have endured have empowered her.
She has been to Germany, Spain, Turkey, and Italy. As a blind person, I can never go out alone in Iran. But in Spain, she goes out alone.
She thinks positively about the future, and may get married to a nice person if she can find one. She hope to find enough time and concentration to work on her next book.
Rico says it is Biblical... (And you think you've got problems, Bunkie?)
