We all get stuck, one way or another, with names we don't particularly like.
I was fortunate, in that my mother insisted that there be no diminutive variant of any of my names (she grew up in the South with way too many Billy Bobs, I guess), so mine is relatively nice. (Rico being a nickname of an alias.)
Barack Obama's parents, of course, could not have known when they had a nice new baby boy that they shouldn't give him the middle name of Hussein.
But we need to remember that there were some good guys named Hussein (or Husayn) along the way, particularly the late king of Jordan, who was Hussein bin Talal (or son of Talal in the Arab construction). We'll ignore the grandson of Mo, the Sharif of Mecca in the 30s, and a bunch of others (see Wikipedia if you want a list).
