Death in the dark

Rico says he's had the Springhill Mine Disaster song running in his head for days; he learned it at Plantation Camp when he was a kid:

That brought back memories of The Pill Versus the Springhill Mine Disaster, Richard Brautigan's seventh poetry collection. The title poem uses just four lines to draw a parallel between the 1958 mining disaster in Springhill, Nova Scotia and the use by the author's lover of birth control pills, in that both leave life, with all of its potential, buried forever:
When you take your pill
it's like a mine disaster.
I think of all the people
lost inside you.”  
Rico says he had a vasectomy early on and solved the problem...
