Unfounded, like the Church itself

Actress Leah Remini (photo), who, last month, left the Church of Scientology, recently filed a missing person's report with the Los Angeles Police Department. The report was filed for Shelly Miscavige, the wife of Scientology head David Miscavige, who longtime church critic and reporter Tony Ortega says has not been publicly seen in six years. The New York Daily News reported that a police source called the missing person's report, "completed and classified as unfounded". LAPD Officer Gregory Baek also told Ortega that detectives have allegedly made contact with Shelly Miscavige and the case is now considered "closed". The King of Queens and Saved by the Bell star Remini left the church over reasons, including corruption and the backlash she had received when she asked why Shelly had not attended the 2006 nuptials of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. The star has yet to reveal what lead her to decisively sever ties with Scientology, though she did tell People late last month that "no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to."  Until she publicly denounced the Church of Scientology, 43-year-old Remini was one of its highest-profile members, alongside Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, and others. We're waiting for the tell-all memoir. Meanwhile, the Church of Scientology, embroiled in a scandal of sorts, released the following statement to People:  "The Los Angeles Police Department has already stated that the case is closed and that the report filed by Leah Remini was unfounded. This ill-advised, ludicrous self-promotion and the media inquiries it generated caused an inexcusable distraction for the LAPD in an era when the time and resources of its officers are stretched thin each day. Creating this unnecessary burden for law enforcement was even more irresponsible given the entire episode was nothing more than a publicity stunt for Remini, cooked up with unemployed, anti-religious zealots who blog on the fringe of the Internet. Sadly, rather than move on with her life and career, Remini has aligned herself with a handful of untrustworthy, lunatic tabloid sources who obsessively harass the Church to advance their selfish agendas."

Rico says he supposes that he is a 'unemployed, anti-religious zealot' who 'blogs on the fringe of the Internet', but he only harasses the Church when an opportunity to do so presents itself...
