Sounds like a lot, until you do the math

Rico says it definitely sounds like a lot of money, a hundred million for Haiti, until you actually do the math: given the recent census of ten million people (pre-earthquake), that's a whopping ten bucks apiece.
Sure, in a third world country, money goes farther, but ten bucks...

Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, described remarks by the religious broadcaster Pat Robertson that Haiti was cursed by a pact it had made with the devil as “utterly stupid”, and as “really stupid” remarks by Rush Limbaugh that Americans should not donate to relief efforts in Haiti because they already donate to Haiti through their income taxes.
Rico says he couldn't have said it better himself... (Except he'd have called them both 'fucking stupid', especially the Pat Robertson line; he said it was because the Haitians had made a pact with the Devil to get the French out of Haiti. That was 1804! Even if you wait until Haiti got US diplomatic recognition, because of the slavery thing, that's still 1862! What a moron...)
