Rico says the official Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index (CPI) calculator says the gallon of gas that Rico paid 35 cents for when he first started driving (okay, it was a long time ago) should now be $2.18.
The station down the street is selling that same gallon for $2.75, and it ranges from $2.65 to $2.95 in the area. The Department of Energy website lists a gallon of regular at $2.52 to $3.10, depending on where you live.
So somebody is making at least thirty cents a gallon more than they should be, and if it ain't the ragheads (sorry, our Arab brethren) then it's the oil company swine...
