For the first time in 37 years, seals have escaped from the seal creche Pieterburen. The discovery that three seals had escaped from the outside basin happened around 06.30 by staff of the creche. "Our last check is always at 23.00 each evening and we discovered that the hekje were open and there were three seals verdwenen". It concerns three seals of a six-month period old. Meanwhile, Ulbe, a male seal, was retrieved. He was swimming in the Pieterbuurstermaar, which flows behind the area of the seal creche. One is catch the seal at this moment (12.50) very busy. The other two seals, Seppe and Emma, are still without a trace. "The seals were present at the last stage of their relief. They had considerably got stronger and were possible almost to sea. Perhaps Emma and Seppe found a beautiful occasion for today (Valentine's Day) in advance together on step at gaan". Whomever responsible is for opening the hek is still unclear. In any case the camarabeelden will be well examined. The employees of seal creche Pieterburen hope that everyone looks out for the animals.

Lost animal stories are always cute
Courtesy of my friend Rob in Holland (and Babelfish for the somewhat strained translation, which Rico has left mostly intact), this news story about the escape of some seals from a 'seal creche' in Pieterburen in the Netherlands:
