An off-duty Warminster Township police officer shot and killed a burglar in a second-floor bedroom of the cop's home in Philadelphia's Upper Roxborough section, police said.
A second burglar fled in the officer's family Honda minivan, police said.
The officer, his wife, and their four children were asleep about 3:50 a.m. when the burglars apparently broke in through a ground floor window of the home in the 8700 block of Sagamore Road in the Andorra neighborhood, police said.
Awakened by the noise, the officer confronted an intruder in a bedroom and opened fire, striking the burglar multiple times, police said.
The intruder was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:12 a.m., police said.
Police broadcast an alert for the missing gray Honda minivan.
Philadelphia homicide detectives are investigating.
