The population, pre-quake, of Haiti was just over nine million. Gerard Aziakou has an AFP article on Yahoo!News that the 'global community' has pledged about ten billion dollars for Haitian relief. That's (of course it is; personal Rico joke) just over $1,111 per head. Given that the average annual income of a Haitian, pre-quake, is estimated at $730, that's giving every man, woman, and child almost two years' income. Not a bad deal, especially for those not directly affected by the quake.
Not that Rico begrudges them the money; they didn't have a very good situation before the quake, and even ten billion won't actually improve it much... (Nice beaches, though.)
