Movie review of the day

Rico says sometimes you have high hopes for a movie, based on who's in it, and sometimes you're disappointed. Vera Cruz is one such movie. (Rico says he sent it back to Netflix after watching only halfway through; he can't remember ever doing that before.)
Given the cast, you'd think it would be incredible: Gary Cooper, Burt Lancaster, Cesar Romero (not one of Rico's favorite actors, but he always does a credible job), Jack Elam, Ernest Borgnine, Charles Buchinsky (before he changed it to Bronson), and a host of others.
It was even directed by Robert Aldrich (not Robert Altman; he did MASH), who later directed such classics as The Angry Hills; Four for Texas; Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte; The Flight of the Phoenix (one of Rico's favorites); The Dirty Dozen (on Rico's top ten list); Ulzana's Raid; Emperor of the North Pole (Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine); The Longest Yard; Hustle; Twilight's Last Gleaming; and The Choirboys. Obviously, he got better after he made this POS movie. If it wasn't set in Mexico during the Revoluton, it would've been called an oater. (So it's a beaner? A taco? Who knows.) Don't bother to find this movie, unless you're into florid, over-acted, underwritten, and over-orchestrated Westerns.
