Civil War for the day

Rico says the Los Angeles Times, like a lot of newspapers, occasionally dredges up an old article, and this one's a classic:

Seems Mr. Sheppard showed up in the paper in an unsuccessful attempt to divorce (it was harder in 1909) his wife after being married for 54 years, and William Davis turned up at the courthouse looking for him. "I have not seen him since the surrender of Lee at Appomattox Courthouse in April of 1865", Davis said.
The article doesn't say if the two old Confederates ever met; a damn shame if they didn't. (Hey, no telephones in those days; that made it harder.)
