Given that Apple traditionally introduces new iPod products in September, just in time for the holiday gift-giving season, their event next week will probably include some refreshing of the iPod line: "In its fiscal third quarter, Apple's iPod unit sales rose 12% to 11 million from 9.8 million in the same period the prior year, down from 21% unit growth between the fiscal third quarters of 2007 and 2006. Growth in two other major Apple businesses, the iPhone handset and Macintosh computers, is far faster. Apple sold 41% more Macs in its fiscal third quarter than it did in the same period a year earlier. IPhone unit sales soared 166% in the same period, though Apple had only just begun selling the iPhone at the tail end of the year-earlier quarter."
