Better idea

This Daily News article has a great suggestion, just a little late:
"Now, seven years later, comes word that we are finally ready to treat six of the perpetrators like the cheap killers they are and hold them accountable. Too bad we did not do that from the start. Too bad we have made them too much like martyrs and not enough like murderers.
The Port Authority cops certainly had the right idea when one of their detectives arrived in Afghanistan after 9/11 with handcuffs that had belonged to one of their murdered comrades, Police Officer Donald McIntyre. The cuffs went on 70 Al Qaeda suspects just as they had on bad guys back in New York. This included one of the very top Al Qaeda guys, Abu Zubaydah.
What we should have done then was bring him and the others back to New York and put them through central booking like any other bad guys: "Stand on the red tape. Face the camera. Now get in there with the rest of the scum. Next."
Instead, we stuck him in some secret prison and waterboarded him. You can be sure we have detectives in New York who could have gotten more reliable information, without physically coercive methods that would get the case tossed out in a civilian court."

Rico could not agree more. Next...
