Amazing actor, amazing man

Seeing him in Guns of Navarone again, I hit Wikipedia to get the details of the life (and death; I couldn't remember when) of Anthony Quinn. It turns out, contrary to my memory, it was his grandfather who was the Irish adventurer, though his father did fight alongside Pancho Villa, it seems. After giving up a career in architecture with Frank Lloyd Wright (who knew?), Quinn started as a studio actor making $800 a week. (And those are 1930s dollars!) He won an Academy Award in 1953 for Viva Zapata! The first movie I remember seeing him in was the aforesaid Guns of Navarone, but many since. I especially loved his role in Lawrence of Arabia (though it was a terrible fake nose they put on him, even if it was historically correct), though it was his work in Zorba the Greek that is truly memorable.

Rico says we don't have a lot of actors like him these days...
