The Slatest has an article by Ben Mathis-Lilley about a (finally) righteous police shooting in New York City:
Police in New York City shot a man near the Penn Station and Port Authority transit hubs this morning, reports say. The suspect was reportedly attempting to hit a police officer with a hammer and is believed to be the same person suspected of three unprovoked hammer attacks on strangers in Manhattan on Monday.
From NBC New York:Rico says at least the guy was armed with something...
The suspect, an image of whom had been captured by surveillance cameras and released by police recently, was killed at the scene near West 37th Street and Eighth Avenue around 10 am on Wednesday, sources said. Sources said he tried to attack a female officer and was shot. The New York Post says the suspect is a thirty-year-old named David Baril. NBC New York reports that he was killed, but other outlets have not yet confirmed a death.
New York City police commissioner William Bratton, in a brief press conference, said the man who was shot had been approached by officers who recognized him as the suspect in recent hammer attacks. The suspect then attacked one of the officers, Bratton said, before her partner shot him. Bratton said the suspect is being treated at a hospital; NBC New York, which initially reported the man was dead, now says he is in "extremely critical condition."
