Rico says he and the ladyfriend watched a documentary on the long-dead (by suicide; in those days, being gay was just 'not done', and they did chemical castration trying to 'cure' him) British scientist,
Alan Turing, who did much to create computers (after helping defeat
Hitler by cracking the
Enigma code).
Turing wondered about 'sufficiently intelligent' machines, whether they would dream.
That, of course, reminded
Rico of
Philip K. Dick's splendid
novel,
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (photo, top).
There's also a new
movie,
The Imitation Game ( poster, bottom), starring
Benedict Cumberbatch (he of
Sherlock fame), that
Rico will see.
