The Fourth of July during World War Two

The National WWII Museum has an article about some of their featured artifacts:
When the founding fathers publicly approved the Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776, the promise of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" was far from certain. During the war years, Americans would have understood exactly what it was for freedom to be in doubt. Independence Day took on a special meaning and was observed across the globe. And, like everything else during the Second World War, people would have made do in whatever way they could to maintain this important tradition.
In commemoration of the Fourth of July, we would like to share some of the images and artifacts from our collection showing ways that Americans across the globe have observed the day:
