Movie review for the day

Rico says that The Descendants (based on a novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings) will teach him not to read the reviews more closely... (You can see the misleading trailer here.)
Yes, it's set in Hawai'i. Yes, it stars George Clooney. Yes, it's very pretty.
However, it's also incredibly sad.
The IMDb short review is true, as far as it goes: A land baron tries to re-connect with his two daughters after his wife suffers a boating accident.
After that, however, it seems the whole fucking movie is about Clooney's cheating wife, played by Shailene Woodley, (in a thankless, if simple, role) lying comatose in a hospital bed, with no prospect for recovery, and Clooney and his two daughters (and a hanger-on of a sort-of boyfriend) having to deal with that.
Complicating the situation is the necessity of Clooney and all his cousins to figure out how their family's 25,000 incredible acres on Kaua'i should be developed, and by whom. Millions of dollars, of course, are at stake, and everybody wants a piece of it. Clooney somehow ended up being the sole heir, at least as far as making the final decision, and there's a lot of politicking by all concerned, and a trip to the island to see the property. (Incredible place, and Rico says he wishes his stepmother, who grew up in Honolulu, had been so lucky in her inheritance.)
All in all, not quite the travelogue we were hoping for...
