Ancient history, redux

Rico says that would be The Wind and the Lion, which he's rewatching. In addition to the splendid performance by Sean Connery, of course, there's a bunch of other good actors in it, including Candice Bergen (looking good, in 1975), Brian Keith as Theodore Roosevelt, John Huston as John Hay, and (Rico's favoritely-named actor) Vladek Sheybal.
It portrays some almost-real history, the kidnapping of Mrs. Eden Pedecaris (who didn't look a damn thing like Ms. Bergen, mostly because it was a guy, Ion Perdicaris) in Morocco at the start of the Twentieth Century.
Ignoring the terribly smart, funny, and humane character played by Mister Connery, many of the indigenous people (read: wogs) seem not much different from those found in the Islamic world these days.
The sending of Marines to deal with the situation by the President, then and now, is a remarkable parallel...
