Cheap, it ain't

Douglas Perry has an article at Tomsguide.com about renting Adobe software:
CS5.5 reacts to the growing demand for content on tablets and smartphones and introduces a subscription model for individual applications as well as complete CS packages.
Adobe is still focusing very much on Flash in its digital publishing strategy, especially since it just launched stage acceleration for Flash. However, content designers will also find HTML5 support in InDesign, which is targeting interactive magazine publishers. A big deal are also extension of applications into the tablet and smartphone space: Adobe is now offering the Photoshop Touch SDK, which enable developers to build tablet apps that interact with Photoshop.
As usual, the creative Suite isn't exactly cheap. The package will cost you at least $1300 for Design Standard. If you want all apps, you will pay twice that ($2600 for the Master Collection.) However, if you don't need all that horsepower all the time, you can simply rent the software. Adobe will charge you $129 per month for the Master Collection or $95 per month for the Design Premium edition. Photoshop alone is priced at $35 per month. Adobe said that it will be releasing major version of the Creative Suite now every two years and fill the space between them with midcycle releases. CS5.5 will ship in about thirty days, Adobe said.
