MIT researchers have made what they call the first practical "artificial leaf", which uses sunlight and water to produce energy using less-costly materials. The team discovered that catalysts made of nickel and cobalt can efficiently split water into hydrogen and oxygen, which are then stored in a fuel cell that generates electricity. In the lab, the artificial leaf prototype operated continuously for at least 45 hours without a drop in activity.Rico says if they keep this up, it may kill the whole petroleum industry...
