How I Met Your Mother had a big part of the show about the death of the father of one of the characters, and what the father's exact 'last' words were to his son, Marshal.
This put Rico in mind of the demise (now that, presumably, he's going to outlive him) of his own father, and what his last words might be.
He ought start thinking about 'em now; wouldn't do for such a smart man to get caught with his quotes down...
(This is why, since his recovery from his 'death' in 2006, Rico now always ends his emails to the ladyfriend with 'I love you'. He'd have given a lot to have been able to say that to her before he went off, to an uncertain future, in the helicopter...)
