From The New York Times:

On 26 April 1986, the world's worst nuclear accident occurred at the Chernobyl plant in the then-Soviet Union. An explosion and fire in the Number Four reactor (photo) sent radioactivity into the atmosphere; at least thirty then-Soviet citizens died immediately.
Rico says, like Fukushima in Japan, its very name now means disaster...
