It's hard to believe, but this month marks the fifty-year anniversary of the timeless World War Two film, The Longest Day. Based on the book written by Cornelius Ryan (who also wrote the screenplay), the film features a star-studded cast of Hollywood A-listers, including John Wayne, Richard Burton, Peter Lawford, Robert Mitchum, and even a young Sean Connery. The Oscar-winning film tells the story of the D-Day invasion from multiple perspectives, using points of view from soldiers in both the Allied and Axis forces. Breaking new ground in cinematography, the film pioneered special-effect techniques that would pave the way for later World War Two epics such as Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and The Thin Red Line.
Fifty years later, it remains a captivating portrayal of the world's greatest conflict.

The History Channel notes a milestone:
Rico says he saw it, first run, and a couple of times since then. Might be time to put it on the Netflix queue...
