Giger, dead at 74

Rico's friend Kelley, also a huge Giger fan, forwards this article about the artist's death:
The man behind the terrifying creatures from the 1979 sci-fi horror classic Alien has died. H.R. Giger (photo) was 74 years old at the time of his death. The famed Swiss surrealist artist passed away on 12 May 2014 in Zurich, Switzerland. His death was related to injuries he sustained from a fall, according to Reuters.
Born in Switzerland in 1940, Giger earned an Academy Award for his work on Alien. He was honored with the Best Achievement for Visual Effects at the 52nd Annual Academy Awards in 1980.
The artist was responsible for creating the haunting alien creatures seen in the Ridley Scott film. Alien earned more than a hundred million dollars at the worldwide box office on an eleven million dollar budget, and starred Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, and Harry Dean Stanton, among others. The film spawned three sequels, all featuring variations on Giger's creature.
In addition to his work on Alien, Giger also directed a few documentary shorts, worked with furniture and interior design, and collaborated with recording artists.
Rico says one assumes the fall was in the house, rather than at the Reichenbach Falls...
