Brian Chen has an article in The New York Times about Apple's long-awaited television:

Inside a document published by Comcast, the company gives a nod to a future Apple set-top box, even though Apple hasn’t introduced one yet. Comcast wrote the document to accompany filings made by Comcast and Time Warner Cable, explaining to regulators why they should be allowed to merge.
In the document, Comcast alludes to Apple’s video services in a section describing competition coming from several technology companies offering digital television services, including Amazon and Microsoft.
When mentioning Apple’s plans, Comcast distinguishes Apple’s current Apple TV from a different set-top box that is still in development: “Apple tablets are viewing platforms for cable services even while Apple offers an online video service, Apple TV, and explores development of an Apple set-top box,” David L. Cohen, an executive vice president at Comcast, said in the document, which is posted on the company’s public policy blog.
The mention of a new Apple TV comes in line with recent reports that Apple has been in talks with Comcast to team up on a streaming video service that would be included on a future Apple set-top box. Older reports also said Apple was in talks with Time Warner Cable and other content providers about partnerships.
Sena Fitzmaurice, a Comcast spokesperson, said the mention of an Apple TV set-top box was based on reporting by the press. “These are all based on publicly-reported press reports,” Fitzmaurice said in a statement.
But the press reports about an Apple and Comcast partnership cited only anonymous sources. Still, Comcast seems confident in citing these unconfirmed reports involving its own company.
Other media reports suggested that a new Apple set-top box would be introduced around March or April of 2014, but no such announcement has been made yet.
As usual, Tom Neumayr, an Apple spokesman, declined to comment.
