Another good one gone

Rico says he's been searching for old friends on-line, and ran across an obituary for one of them, published in the Ukiah Daily Journal:
Donald MacFarlane Kantor. Born in January 27, 1946, was called by God to join Him on 10 May 2011. Donald was full of love, warm heart, and life. He had great rapport with everyone he befriended through the years of his life. He had great passion for music, lives, philosophy, history of all kinds, and was a scholar. A genius with a double degree in mathematics, he was a clinical psychologist who then became a Mental Health Worker at Mills Peninsula Hospital in the Bay Area. He had many talents ranging from a computer tech, martial arts, owning and running The Gold Mine jewelry store, co-owning and managing a coffee shop, managing other restaurants, was a bartender, and a disc jockey at KTDE, a local radio station in Gualala, California. He popped and sold popcorn at the Point Arena Theatre, receiving in return free tickets to shows. He read books of mysteries, wars, survivals, and was a great collector of cookbooks. Donald's love for music brought him to volunteer his services with Rock Med as a medical staff at music concerts/festivals throughout the Bay Area, featuring The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Pat Benitar, Janis Joplin, and other concerts promoted by the late Bill Graham. Donald shared many memories and loving friends he met from the late 1970's through 2003. Donald also served in the United States Army, during the Vietnam years, and was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he served and taught recruits to become scouts. He received an honorable discharge as staff sergeant. He left the Bay Area and moved to Mendocino County ten years ago, living in Point Arena until July of2007. On his birthday in 2006, he encouraged Cynthia to come to Point Arena to celebrate his birthday and she worked by his side to make and sell popcorn at the theatre. In 2007 he moved to Ukiah with Cynthia, whom he recently married on 18 January 2011 witnessed by his best friend and neighbor, Gale Nelson. Donald also worked for Hey Taxi medical transport services, under the supervision of Joe and Eric, driving patients to their medical appointments at Davita Dialysis Center and many out of town trips to Marin, Sonoma, and Napa Counties and as far as Los Gatos. Donald is survived by his wife, Cynthia Lapuz (Bertumen) Kantor of Ukiah; three step-children: Valerie Bertumen (Ross Domen) and step-granddaughter, Kokomi J. Domen of Cerritos, California; Geoff and wife Lillibeth Bertumen of American Canyon, California and their four children: Geoffrey, Caleb, Dominic, and Leia; and Marie Bertumen of Vallejo, California. Donald was also survived by his only sibling, Judy Archer and her husband Frank, of Chico, California. His nieces Sara Vining Cardozo (Matt Cardozo) and son Mason Robert; Alexi Vining of Sacramento, California; Leah Vining Goldsberry of Pensacola, Florida, as well as his cousins Peter Sayer, wife Karen, Pat Sayer, wife Mary and their families; stepmother, Sharon (Kantor) Church, her husband Leighs and their families and by saddened hundreds of friends. Donald was laid to rest on 12 May 2011, Rabbi Shoshana officiated and Empire Mortuary provided the services.
Rico says he used to live down the block from Don and his woman friend Chizuko Omori in College Terrace in Palo Alto, California, and went to the same aikido classes. He was a good man, and will be missed...
