On 5 June 1968, Senator Robert F. Kennedy was shot and mortally wounded just after claiming victory in California's Democratic presidential primary. The gunman, Sirhan Bishara Sirhan, was immediately arrested. He is currently serving a life sentence at Pleasant Valley State Prison in California.
