Movie review for the day
For lack of anything better this afternoon, Rico says he watched Shenandoah, ostensibly a Civil War movie starring Jimmy Stewart and a bunch of other notable folks. Directed by Andrew McLaglen (better known for McLintock! and Chisum and Bandolero! and The Last Hard Men, and whose father Victor was a great actor), it also starred Doug McClure, Patrick Wayne (who didn't inherit his father's skills), George Kennedy, and Katharine Ross. Unfortunately, it looks more like a Western than an 'Eastern', even with all the troops assembled in gray and blue. Worse yet, for those with a good eye, is all the trapdoor Springfields being used in lieu of Civil War muskets... (The cannons were right, though.) Not a great movie, even given Mr. Stewart, but it kills a hot afternoon...

I love this movie! Not for the accuracy of the costumes and props, or even the acting. Ross is wooden, but Stewart is fine. No, it's for the great story of redemption in it. I also love Strother Martin as the train engineer, "You can't burn my train!"
By the way, it's not about the Civil War; it's about the Vietnam war.
