History for the day: 1964: the Civil Rights Act


On 19 June 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was approved, after surviving an eighty-three-day filibuster in the Senate.

Rico says they're still working on the problem, and both Lyndon and Martin are dead... (And 83 days is a filibuster, making the recent eighteen-hour effort seem paltry...)
