History for the day

Today is the birthday of James Dean (8 February 1931), who managed— in a phenomenally brief acting career— to become an iconic figure, representing for countless admirers the restlessness and romance of American youth.
He starred in only three films, Rebel Without a Cause, East of Eden, and Giant, all released just before he was killed in a car accident on 30 September 1955. Dean was the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, and remains the only actor to have had two posthumous acting nominations. Had his life not come to a tragic end, he'd be eighty years old today.
"Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today."
James Dean
