A Canadian driver got a scary surprise when she drove right into Lake Huron while following instructions from her GPS, the CBC reports. Still unidentified, the woman was navigating foggy weather in Tobermory, Ontario, when she turned down a boat launch and found her car sinking. "How the launch works, it's not an airborne thing. It's not Dukes of Hazzard," Constable Katrina Rubinstein-Gilbert told the Toronto Sun. "It kind of goes off the road and the launch just drops all of a sudden." Luckily, the woman was able to roll down her window and wiggle into the water. which was at about forty degrees Fahrenheit, and swim roughly a hundred feet to shore.Rico says that they really need to make her retake her driving exam...
Unhurt, she walked to a nearby hotel and had police called in. Seems they found her in a good mood and without hypothermia from her surprise swim. "She's in really good spirits," says Rubinstein-Gilbert. "Of course a little embarrassed, but taking it all in stride." Her car isn't so fortunate, though: pulled from Little Tub Harbour on Friday, the red vehicle was beyond repair. In a press release, police blamed the accident on weather and the woman being new to the area. Rubinstein-Gilbert put it more simply, saying the driver missed a right turn and ended up in the lake, ABC News reports. (Some travelers have ended up in the wrong country because of their GPS instructions.)
