Apple for Valentine's Day

PHOTO

Shawn Ingram has article at Philly.com about Apple's latest:
Apple only has a few core products and devices and, while not all of them are suitable as Valentine's Day gifts, this list will help you find the best Apple products to give as presents. Some of the items aren't exactly cheap, but there is something here for just about everyone. Well, everyone except those with an irrational hatred of all things Apple.
iPad AirThe 9.7-inch iPad Air is easy to recommend, because it's such a big step up from its predecessor. Starting at $500 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model, the iPad Air is the most expensive iPad available, but it's a big enough improvement from the iPad 2 to justify the extra hundred dollars. With its large screen, the iPad Air is great for information-dense apps and, when paired with a keyboard and the right apps, it could replace a laptop for many.
iPad mini with Retina DisplayThe smaller of the two iPads, the iPad mini with Retina Display has the same specs as the iPad Air put into a smaller shell. With a starting price point of $400, it's the better option for those on a somewhat tighter budget. The smaller screen makes the iPad mini with Retina Display better suited for one-handed reading or for those who want a tablet they can carry around in a smaller purse or bag.
The iPad mini with Retina Display is just as capable of replacing a laptop as the iPad Air, if the user can deal with the smaller display. It might be easier to carry around, but it's slightly more difficult to type on because of its size.
MacBook AirFor those who have the money to spend, the MacBook Air is one of the best laptops available at the moment. It may not be the most powerful, but it's fast enough for everyday use, and the battery lasts for almost a full day. It's a great laptop for anyone who travels a lot, or who just wants a computer that won't weigh them down too much.
The MacBook Air starts at $999 for the base eleven-inch model.
iPod touchThe iPod touch is an obvious choice for kids who aren't old enough for a smartphone, but love to play games on their parents' phones. All but the least expensive model of the iPod touch has an iSight camera that is great for apps like Instagram. It's all the best features of the iPhone without the extra phone added to the data plan.
The iPod touch is also a good gift for those who refuse to give up their BlackBerry phone for one reason or another, but who still want to try the latest apps and games. The iPod touch starts at $229; models that have the rear-facing camera start at $299.
iTunes gift cardThe iTunes gift card is an easy go-to gift for just about anyone. It's good for app addicts, music fans, iBooks readers, and just about anyone else. With Spotify, Rdio, and other music streaming services out there, the iTunes gift card may not be as universal as it once was, but there are still plenty of people out there who like to buy their music.
Of course, the iTunes gift card can also buy apps, movies, television shows, and iBooks from Apple
Apple TVAs Apple showed in a recent ad, the Apple TV is one of the best accessories for any iOS device. With it, iPhone and iPad users can use AirPlay to stream any music or movie to their television, making it a great way to share home videos. The device makes it easy to buy or rent movies and television shows from iTunes and watch them on the television as well.
The Apple TV also has a number of built-in apps including Netflix, Hulu Plus, HBO GO, and the upcoming WWE Network. It does not have as many features as other set-top boxes like the Roku 3, but at $99 it's a great gift for anyone who lives inside Apple's content ecosystem.
iPhone 5sThe iPhone 5s is the best choice for anyone looking to give an iPhone as a gift this year. As the top-of-the-line iPhone, the iPhone 5s is one of the fastest smartphones on the market, and it has one of the best cameras. It may still be hard to find, especially the gold version, but it's a great gift if you can get one.
The iPhone 5s starts at $199 on a two-year contract; unlocked it starts at $649.
Rico asks why the fuck would you buy presents for anyone with an irrational hatred of all things Apple anyway?
