Protests paralyze the Ukraine


Time has an article about the Ukraine:
Mass protests in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev— the largest since the 2005 Orange Revolution— have paralyzed the country, with protesters calling on President Viktor Yanukovych to not jettison his nation’s move towards integration with the European Union. The President’s unwillingness to release a political rival from prison in late November of 2013 led to demonstrations and sit-ins that have spotlighted the Ukraine’s awkward place on the geopolitical map, split between the influence of an expanding Europe and neighboring Russia.

Rico says the top photo proves that the police in the Ukraine are as tough as the weather, and the bottom photo, showing a protestor hammering a fallen statue of Lenin, proves that things have changed; in the Soviet Union era, they'd've been shot for that...
