Oops is now a robbery term

Police this morning continue their investigation into the fatal shooting of a would-be robber last night by the owner of a Tacony deli store. The shootout happened at about 6 p.m. Tuesday at Anna's Deli on the 4400 block of Princeton Avenue.
Police say a nineteen-year-old man approached the deli's cash register, armed with a 9mm handgun. He then fired two shots at the store owner's wife. That's when the deli owner, identified as a 55-year-old man, emerged from the back of the store with a 9mm handgun and shot the would-be robber in the chest, according to police. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:22 p.m.
No one in the store was injured by the gunfire. Police didn't say how many people were inside at the time. Police have not released the names of anyone involved, but are expected to do so later this morning. It wasn't immediately known whether the would-be robber knew the deli owner, or if he was a suspect in any other recent crimes in the area.
Philadelphia police crime data shows that about a dozen robberies have been reported on streets near the deli in the past month. But that particular store doesn't appear to be a frequent target: just one robbery has been reported on its block in the past three years, police data shows.
The deli owner wasn't facing any charges as of this morning, but police say the incident is still under investigation.
