History for the day

Rico says that history is always fascinating, and sometimes it can be surprising:
Rudyard Kipling wrote The Man Who Would Be King in 1888, about Daniel Dravot and Peachy Carnehan, "who went off to Kafiristan, for to be kings". While it's likely (see below) that Kipling Anglicized his story, that's okay, because was made into a splendid movie by John Huston in 1975, starring Sean Connery as Dravot and Michael Caine as Carnehan, along with Rico's favorite, Saeed Jaffrey as Billy Fish. 
Ben Macintyre wrote The Man Who Would Be King in 2004, about Josiah Harlan, a Pennsylvania Quaker and the first American ever to enter Afghanistan. The real surprise, however, is that Harlan was from Chester County, not ten miles from Rico...
