Stupid kid for the day

Regina Medina has a Philadelphia Daily News article about a recent non-abduction:
A nine-year-old girl at Lea Elementary School in West Philadelphia told school administrators that she was the victim of an attempted abduction, then recanted her claim once Philadelphia police arrived to investigate.
After the child and her parents were interviewed at length by the Special Victims Unit, police determined her story to be "unfounded," said unit Captain John Darby.
The child arrived to the school, on Locust near 47th, about 9 a.m. The unidentified girl apparently thought that she'd get in trouble for tardiness and made up the attempted-kidnapping scenario, according to a source familiar with the case.
Darby would not elaborate on why the girl made up the story. He did say that she knew about the recent highly-publicized kidnapping of a five-year-old girl at Bryant Elementary School, about two miles southwest of Lea.
When asked if the Lea student might have copied the crime because it was in the news, Darby stressed that he did not want to speculate. "She was aware of it and was concerned. How that applied to this report I can't begin to say. Nor should you."

Rico says it proves she watches the news, anyway...
