Ouch

Fox News has the story of an LAPD officer shot in the line of duty:
A Los Angeles police officer was shot and critically wounded while investigating a domestic violence report in a Los Angeles suburb of Sylmar. Steve Jenkins, a 22-year veteran of the force, was shot at 2:15 a.m. as police and SWAT officers closed in on the suspect's house. "He is a true hero," Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said. "This is a tragedy."
The officer was rushed to Providence Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills and underwent surgery. A doctor later told the press that the officer was sedated and in critical condition. Jenkins was reportedly shot in the face, and the bullet exited his lower jaw.
The standoff continued as the suspect, described as a Hispanic man in his 50s, remained in the house. Neighbors have been evacuated to a nearby high school.
Rico says there's more here, including the death of the shooter, if you want it.
