Rico says he has been rereading Arthur Conan Doyle's wonderful Sherlock Holmes stories, and had to hit the internet when one mentioned the Royal Munsters. That sounded made-up, but turned out to be a real British Army regiment, the Royal Munster Fusiliers, disbanded in 1922, well after Doyle wrote of them in 1893.
A lot of battle honors in the First World War (the one in which, alone of the many shirkers in his family, Rico's grandfather G.H. Wilson served), and several Victoria Crosses awarded.
A splendid little piece of 'found' history.
