People aren't as smart as they think

We bought this for the cat, thinking it would remove the 'oh-dark-thirty' feeding. Once we figured out how to make the timer work, the feeder worked just fine. Except the cat didn't understand that the food appeared automatically, so you had to get up, walk to the kitchen, turn the light on, and point to the bowl and say "there, stupid". After that, of course, it was fine, but it sort of offset the whole not-getting-up notion.
Worse yet, the cat, being smarter than the people who invented it, realized that all she had to do was push the lid in the opposite direction to reveal the next bowl. Now, in their defense, the lid was spring-loaded and did snap back as soon as she stopped pushing, but her notion was it was worth it for the bite of food she got each time she did it.
Needless to say, it's going back to the distributor, because seventy bucks is seventy bucks.
But Rico is doing it reluctantly, because Rico hates getting up at oh-dark-thirty just to feed the cat, but there you jolly well are, aren't you?
