Have you ever seen Harrison Ford guffaw in an interview? Chortle, even? Kick back and laugh with unbridled joy? Of course you haven’t! That’s not really his thing, you know? Ford is the eternal Cool Movie Star, a man who never raises his gravelly voice more than he needs to in interviews. If you’re lucky, you might catch a smirk from him or a light, scattered chuckle.Rico says he'll see it as soon as he can...
However, you’re not Alison Hammond of British ITV series This Morning, who was so bubbly in a Wednesday interview that she turned a chat with Ford and his Blade Runner 2049 co-star Ryan Gosling into a mad laugh factory. Things are silly from the start, when Hammond shows Gosling that she’s brought cups that look like the originals used in the first Blade Runner. “Are you a fan of the original?” he asks.
“Never seen it!” she admits, bursting out laughing. Ford’s head immediately perks up and things are just off and away from there.
“Bleak, dystopian, an absolute nightmare to be honest, that’s just my interviewing techniques,” she quips, which makes Ford throw his head back in laughter.
“Cheer up, it’s a lovely day in London,” Ford retorts, causing Gosling to double over in laughter. And then he breaks into the mini-bottle of Scotch beside him and pours it into the cup. Have you ever heard Ford guffaw? It’s like hearing rare animal sounds for the first time. You didn’t know they could make that noise, especially in such a rich baritone.
The entirely too short interview is filled with moments like this; Ford shouts, “Show me the money!” when Hammond asks how he responded to the Blade Runner sequel proposal, which is a gift unto itself. But perhaps his hardest laugh is at Gosling’s expense, when Hammond asks the younger star if he had done any knitting on the set of 2049. Back in 2013, Gosling revealed in an interview that he loves knitting, and he’s probably been teased about it ever since. Hammond pokes fun at his habit, pointing to the sweater he wears in the interview. “I just looked at your jumper and I thought, ‘Did he knit that?’” she says. And Harrison Ford cracks up even harder. The laugh riot Blade Runner 2049 is in theaters everywhere this Friday.
