An man was arrested on Tuesday for attempting to join the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL). Akram Musleh, eighteen, was arrested at the Greyhound bus station in Indianapolis, Indiana and charged with conspiracy to provide material support to a terrorist organization.Rico says a nice bunch of kids; we should try and make sure they become martyrs...
Police said he was attempting to board a bus to New York City, from where he intended to fly to Morocco on his way to join ISIS. Musleh had researched potential targets in Indiana, as well as how to make explosives, according to court documents. He was allegedly in contact with suspected members of ISIS. One member of ISIS reportedly urged him to carry out terrorist attacks on the American military in Florida.
"We commend the FBI and law enforcement officers at every level in this state for the efforts that led to the apprehension of a radicalized Brownsburg teenager who was attempting to join terrorist forces in the Middle East," Indiana Governor Mike Pence said in a statement. "The apprehension of this suspect is an example of collaboration at the highest level of law enforcement and, because of these actions, there is no doubt that Indiana is a safer place."
In another domestic radicalization case, two California men were convicted of conspiring to join the Islamic State. The two men, both from Anaheim, were arrested in May of 2015. Nader Elhuzayel and Muhanad Badawi, both 25, had used social media to discuss plans to join the Islamic State and die as martyrs.
Elhuzayel was convicted of 26 counts of bank fraud in addition to the terror charges, while Badawi could be deported to Sudan after serving a sentence of up to 35 years.
