Too many of The Few

Watching a splendid documentary (recommended by Rico's friend and fellow history nut, Kelley) on Netflix about the Battle of Britain, titled Battle of Britain: The Real Story, Rico is reminded of a  couple of bits from Beyond the Fringe:

"Please, sir, I want to join The Few."
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but there are already far too many."

(Said by the Squadron Leader to Flight Officer Perkins): "I want you to lay down your life, Perkins." "Right, sir!" "We need a futile gesture at this stage. It will raise the whole tone of the war." "Yes, sir!" "Get up in a crate, Perkins." "Sah!" "Pop over to Bremen." "Yes, sir!" "Take a shufti." "Right, sir!" "Don't come back." "Yes sir" "Goodbye, Perkins. God, I wish I was going too." "Goodbye, sir, or is it au revoir?" "No, Perkins."
